Piedmont has the most DOC-DOCG zones (50 and counting) and stands proud as the region with the largest percentage of its wines officially classified. For craftsmanship, respect for tradition and devotion to native vines in their historical habitats, the Piedmontese have no rivals in Italy. Local clones of Nebbiolo such as Nebbiolo di Dronero (also know as "Chatus") are worth searching out, as they are impressive and diverse examples of Piemonte's enological variety.
