Casale della Ioria, Perinelli

History of the Estate:
The meaning of the winery's name- Casale della Ioria- is actually casa della gloria, or "house of glory". This was the name of the estate in the 1700s, an estate which historically has always had a small winery and some acreage of vines. The Perinelli family's winery has always supported the historical traditions of this estate by continuing the viticultural traditions, and by preserving the more ancient and indigenous grape varietals.

The estate itself is situated in Ciociara, 60 KM south of Rome in the DOC zone for "Cesanese del Piglio". Olives and grapes have been cultivated here for thousands of years, making the Perinelli family extremely proud to be a part of this noble agricultural history. The majority of the estate is planted with various clones of the autochthonous variety Cesanese- a grape which is not easy to cultivate. In fact, production of the wines made from this grape has almost always traditionally been absorbed by the local people of Rome and Lazio. This enological gem has the potential to create fine, elegant red wines expressive of their local terroir. Thanks to the efforts of Casale della Ioria, the rest of the world might someday also come to understand this rare and lovely grape.
