Lazio has a noble tradition of red wine production little known to those outside of the region itself. The majority of the red wine produced in this region even today remains within Rome and other large cities of Lazio. Some of these wines are produced using enological rarities such as Cesanese, a vine whose local clone is called "Cesanese di Affile". Although not widespread in the international market, these wines are not to be missed.
